La jeune ontarienne Avril Lavigne a pris le monde de la musique par surprise en 2002 avec son premier album « Let Go » dont les ventes ont monté en flèche avec le succès du premier simple « Complicated » et du second, « Sk8ter boi » dont le pop-rock aux accents de punk ont séduit les adolescents et adolescentes aux quatre coins du globe.

Dès sa tendre enfance à Napanee, une petite ville de 5000 habitants non loin d'Ottawa, elle s'adonne à la musique. Au début de l'adolescence, elle écrit ses propres chansons et s'accompagne à la guitare. Elle fait également partie de la chorale de l'église tout en se produisant lors de festivals et d'événements locaux.

Alors qu'elle est en voyage à New York, elle retient l'attention du grand patron d'Arista Records, Antonio « L.A. » Reid qui lui offre un contrat alors qu'elle n'est âgée que de 16 ans. On l'installe dans un appartement de Manhattan et l'entoure d'une équipe d'auteurs. Elle préfère cependant s'en tenir à ses textes et déménage à Los Angeles pour mettre la touche finale à « Let Go » qui s'est écoulé à plus de cinq millions d'exemplaires aux USA a atteint le deuxième échelon du Hot 200 des albums.

Après une telle réussite, la jeune chanteuse avait fort à faire, mais s'en est tirée plus qu'honorablement, avec les albums "My World" (2003) et "Under My Skin (2004)", tous deux couronnés d'un grand succès. Elle a, en toute logique collectionné les prix et les récompenses. Mariée au chanteur de Sum 41, Deryck Whibley, Avril a entamé une carrière de mannequin et se prépare à revenir pour un nouvel album.
